Fran is the Chief Executive Director of the Manchester Law Society and gladly accepted the award at the show, which was held at the Hilton Manchester Deansgate. “What a great honor to have received a Legends of Industry Award for Outstanding Achievement to the Legal Sector. I am so proud to have been included on the same stage as the other truly worthy winners – I really don’t know how this happened, but I do know that I am sincerely grateful for this wonderful accolade.
“Thanks to Variety, the most fabulous children’s charity for this honor and for all the tireless work they continue to do with disadvantaged, sick and disabled children in the North West. They are the true legends.”

BUSINESS NEWS: Law firm’s record award nominations

With nominations being announced for the first ever Devon and Somerset Law Society Awards, one firm stood out from the rest. Wollen Michelmore was nominated in 6 of the 12 categories, being nominated in the Corporate and Social Responsibility; Law Firm (11+ Partners) of the Year; Team of the Year – Private Client and Family; Client Service; Solicitor of the Year (Rachel Carter and David Kendall) and Leader/Law Manager of the Year (Chris Hart) categories.
The winners won’t be announced until the annual Devon and Somerset Law Society dinner in March next year, but the nominations are more than satisfactory right now for the Law firm. Wollen Michelmore practice director, Clive Meredith, said: “This is a wonderful way to end the year. Competition for these awards is extremely tough in the two counties, and the judging panel demand excellence. To be nominated for one category is an achievement, but six is an outstanding testimony to the continued hard work of the team.”
The firm has had other recent success as well, winning two awards at the 2015 Corporate LiveWire Awards for Innovation and Excellence in Commercial Litigation UK and Innovative Accident and Personal Injury Law Firm UK.

Liverpool law firm Hill Dickinson praised in national awards ceremony

Liverpool and international law firm Hill Dickinson found itself the winner of two awards at the 2015 Eclipse Proclaim Personal Injury Awards in London for its insurance business group. This is the 8th year now for the awards, which annually identifies high standards of practice and celebrates excellence in the personal injury claims sector.
The awards the firm walked away with were Defendant Team of the Year for the firm’s abuse and social care team and Young Achiever of the Year, which went to Senior Associate John McKie. The abuse and social care team was led by partner Alastair Gillespie, and they were noted for acting on a number of significant precedent-setting cases in the Court of Appeal and Supreme Court.
John Mckie, who works in the firm’s retail group, really stood out as over the past 18 months he has played a key role in three winning tenders which have significantly increased annual income and delivered remarkable results for clients, including a 10% year-on-year reduction of ‘average cost of settled claim’ for one retailer.
Ruth Lawrence, head of the firm’s insurance business group, said: “I’m delighted the judges have recognized the hard work and dedication shown by John and our abuse and social care team.
“Our success at these awards would not be possible without the support and trust of our clients and both awards reflect our commitment to delivering outstanding client care.”
