Brazil – Rio de Janeiro

Tauil & Chequer Advogados in association with Mayer Brown announces the arrival of Alexandre Bittencourt Calmon, who joins the Oil & Gas and Mining groups as a partner in Rio de Janeiro. Recognized internationally for his experience in natural resources, Mr. Calmon joins the firm from Vieira Rezende Advogados, where he was co-head of that firm’s Oil & Gas practice. Mr. Calmon has extensive experience in regulatory affairs and M&A operations, assisting both local and international clients in the areas of oil & gas and mining. He also advises clients in operations involving oil & gas purchase-and-sale contracts and consortia structuring, as well as in projects in the midstream area, such as transportation and supply of gas and ethanol.

Dentons has announced that David Wotherspoon has joined the firm as a partner in and will lead their Litigation and Dispute Resolution group in Vancouver. David’s practice focuses on corporate and commercial disputes, and encompasses all areas of litigation and dispute resolution. David acts for large institutional clients in a broad range of industry sectors, as well as many early-stage companies and individuals, with particular experience in areas such as technology and intellectual property. France – Paris

Ashurst announces the appointment of Anne Reffay and Hortense de Roux as partners in its corporate and dispute resolution practices in Paris. 

Anne joins from Jones Day, where she has been since 2015. Prior to that, Anne worked for 15 years as a corporate lawyer at Ashurst. Anne specialises in leveraged buyouts and M&A, including joint ventures. She advises both investment funds and industrial companies and also has significant experience in advising on the corporate aspects of restructurings.

Hortense joins from Jones Day’s litigation team where she has worked since 2006. A corporate and commercial litigator, she has a broad practice focusing on contractual disputes, distribution, industrial risks and product liability. Hortense is involved in pre-litigation work and represents domestic and international corporates in French courts and tribunals in sectors including IT, transport, digital economy and retail. Hortense has also been involved in large scale internal investigations relating to compliance and white collar crime.‎

Dentons has strengthened its Banking and Finance practice in Paris with the recruitment of capital markets and structured finance partner Julien Bacus and associate Aurélie Bonnet. They join Dentons from Ashurst, where Bacus was a partner in the Finance department since 2008. Prior to that, he worked for Allen & Overy in Paris and London for almost 8 years. Julien Bacus is a recognized lawyer in the field of finance, capital markets and structured finance. He focuses on derivative transactions covering different types of underlying assets. He also advises clients in financial difficulty on the restructuring of derivative transactions and on pre-litigation matters. In addition, he has extensive experience in the hedging of financing transactions (LBOs in particular), issuance of debt, structured products, as well as financial regulation.

Mexico – Mexico City

DLA Piper announced today that Diego Martínez has joined the firm’s Corporate practice as a partner in the Mexico City office. Martínez’s practice focuses on general corporate matters, with an emphasis on banking and capital markets. Allen & Overy announced the appointment of leading senior litigator Gerhard Rudolph as a partner in the global litigation practice based in the Johannesburg office. ​Gerhard was formerly co-managing partner and head of litigation at Baker McKenzie, Johannesburg.
