Bird & Bird LLP has announced the appointment of Maria Carlsson as partner in the Corporate Group, based in the Helsinki office. She joins from Borenius Attorneys, where she was a partner in the M&A & Private Equity Group as well as the head of the Commercial Contracts team. Maria specialises in private M&A and strategic contracting and has over 15 years of experience advising Finnish and international clients on structuring and negotiating demanding M&A and commercial deals, including cross-border and private equity transactions.

Mayer Brown JSM announced that Doo-Soon (Doos) Choi has joined the firm as a Hong Kong-based partner in the Banking & Finance practice. Doos comes to Mayer Brown JSM from the Hong Kong office of Ashurst. Doos is widely recognised for his experience in multijurisdictional acquisition finance, investment grade and sub-investment grade corporate finance, distressed portfolio sales, and strategic debt investments. He advises clients in a variety of industries, including real estate, healthcare, financial services, insurance, mining, and oil and gas.

Greenberg Traurig LLP announced that Bernadette M. Rappold has joined the firm’s Washington, D.C. office in the Environmental and Litigation practices. Rappold served 15 years at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), most recently as Director of EPA’s Special Litigation and Projects Division in the Office of Civil Enforcement. As Director, Rappold led complex enforcement actions in response to violations of the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act, the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, and other environmental statutes.

K&L Gates LLP welcomed Steven F. Hill as a partner in the antitrust, competition, and trade regulation practice. Hill, who arrives from Baker & McKenzie, is the seventh new partner, of counsel, or public policy professional to join K&L Gates’ Washington, D.C., office in the past two months. Hill has nearly 20 years of experience focusing on international trade regulation compliance and enforcement, United States export controls and sanctions law, and anti-corruption matters, including regulatory issues under the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA).

Ropes & Gray today announced that Amanda Persaud has joined the private investment funds practice as a partner in the firm’s 300-lawyer New York office. Ms. Persaud joins Ropes & Gray from Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz, where she served as head of its private investment funds practice. Persaud’s practice focuses on the formation, fundraising and operation of private investment funds, including private equity funds, hedge funds, credit funds and other types of alternative asset funds.
