USA – Washington

Dentons has named John Fernandez its first Global Chief Innovation Officer to drive the Firm’s innovation initiatives. Fernandez has served as Dentons’ US Chief Innovation Officer and is also the global chair of Nextlaw Labs, an autonomous legal technology business accelerator wholly owned by Dentons. Nextlaw Labs works closely with the Firm’s lawyers, professionals and clients to identify investment and co-development opportunities for new technologies that will transform the legal industry to deliver greater client value.

Australia – Sydney

Clifford Chance announced that corporate and private equity partners Andrew Crook and Mark Currell will join its Australia Corporate practice to bolster its local and regional offering to clients in the buoyant private equity, M&A, and alternative funding markets. Both partners bring almost two decades of regional and global experience advising private equity firms and multinational businesses on a wide range of Australian and cross border transactions in the industrials, education, energy and resources, financial, real estate and technology sectors.

Italy – Rome

Dentons has announced the hire of partner Giovanni Diotallevi to develop and lead the project finance team within the Banking and Finance practice in Italy. He will focus also on cash flow based transactions. Mr Diotallevi joins the Rome office, along with managing counsel Andrea De Luca Picioneand associate Stefania Verroca. Mr Diotallevi has significant experience in project finance in the infrastructure, transportation, telecommunications, energy, water and services sectors.

USA – New York 

Sidley Austin LLP announce that Michael J. Schmidtberger has been elected Chair of its Executive Committee, the governing body responsible for exercising general authority over the firm’s policies and affairs, effective January 1, 2018. Mr. Schmidtberger has been involved in shaping the direction of the firm for the past 15 years in his various leadership roles. He is co-leader of Sidley’s internationally recognized Investment Funds, Advisers and Derivatives practice, which has won numerous awards as a provider of legal services to the private funds industry. Mr. Schmidtberger has served on Sidley’s Executive Committee since 2002 and Management Committee since 2008. Additionally, he has been managing partner of Sidley’s New York office for the past five years, a role he will vacate upon assuming his new duties as Executive Committee chair.

Romania – Bucharest

Wolf Theiss welcomes back Flaviu Nanu as Counsel and adds Sebastian Boțic as Associate in the Firm’s Real Estate, Energy and Infrastructure practice groups.

Flaviu has more than fifteen years of professional experience in the legal field, across multiple practice areas. He is specialized in real estate law, energy, as well as in mergers and acquisitions. Over the course of his legal career, Flaviu has assisted national and international clients on significant real estate projects, for the acquisition, development and operation of residential, office and retail facilities in Romania. He has also advised clients in the energy field, on the development, financing and operation of energy projects (renewable, conventional, nuclear energy, cogeneration and waste-to-energy).

Sebastian is specialized in environmental planning law, construction & infrastructure projects, as well as litigation in these areas. Sebastian has also worked for nine years as an architect and urban planner. He has a PhD in architecture and philosophy and has given numerous conference presentations in these areas. He has also authored and co-authored books and articles for well-known publications in Romania, on matters covering building environment philosophy and spatial planning law.
