Austria – Vienna

DLA Piper has announced that they are continuing to expand its leading international Tax practice with the hire of Dimitar Hristov, who will be leading the tax group in Austria. Dimitar has more than 10 years’ experience as a leading tax advisor, most recently at the Austrian tax advisory firm LeitnerLeitner. He has extensive expertise in international tax law; corporate taxation; tax planning and tax advice in connection with international restructurings and reorganizations, mergers & acquisitions, corporate finance transactions, venture capital and private equity structures. Dimitar also has an excellent knowledge of the Russian and other Eastern European markets as he has advised on several inbound and outbound transactions in Eastern Europe.

France – Paris

Dentons has further boosted its Europe Real Estate practice with the addition of partner Pascal Schmitz and his associates, Peter Schäfer and Alexandre d’Avout d’Auerstaedt in Paris. The team joins from King & Spalding, where Schmitz led the Real Estate and Private Equity team in France. Prior to that he was a partner for 10 years at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer. Pascal Schmitz has more than 20 years of professional experience representing German, French, European and US investment funds on transactions in France and the region. Throughout his career, he has advised on all aspects of commercial real estate and real estate finance, including corporate and investment property acquisitions and disposals, acquisition financing, and joint ventures, as well as real estate funds structuring (including OPCI). In addition, Schmitz also has extensive experience in all areas of property management, such as commercial leases, development agreements and construction law.

Peru – Lima

Dentons announces the incorporation of José Aguado López as a partner of the Dispute Resolution practice. José Aguado is a specialist in litigation of civil, constitutional, contentious, and commercial matters; He has been part of important national and international arbitration processes. Previously, he was as an associate in Payet Rey Cauvi Pérez Abogados and a professor at the Law School of the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú.

Spain – Madrid

Bird & Bird boosts its Intellectual Property practice with the appointment of Mariano Santos as a partner in Madrid. He joins Bird & Bird’s leading Spanish Intellectual Property practice. Mariano joins from Herrero & Asociados where he was International Legal Affairs Manager. He specialises in processing Spanish, European Union and other trademarks, with a particular focus on trademark prosecution, opposition proceedings, appeals, conflict research, strategic advice and negotiations. Additionally, he has considerable experience in managing brand portfolios across Central and South America, and advises Asian (particularly Japanese and Korean), European and US companies on their brand management issues.

UAE – Dubai

Dentons has bolstered its UAE Corporate practice with the hire of partner Ziad Saad who has been based in Dubai for over seven years. Ziad’s practice is primarily focused on domestic and cross-border M&A, private equity, joint ventures, foreign direct investments and capital markets. He has broad-based transactional experience and in-depth expertise advising international and regional corporate clients across a wide range of industries in Europe and the Middle East, particularly in the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.

Sidley Austin LLP is pleased to announce that Maria Isabel (“Marie”) Manley has joined the firm in London as a partner in its global Life Sciences practice. She will lead the Life Sciences team in London. Ms. Manley comes to Sidley from Bristows LLP, where she was the leader of its Life Sciences regulatory department. Ms. Manley is a highly ranked leader in EU life sciences law, whose practice reaches across the entire EU and globally. Her remits have included bet-the-company regulatory matters and major EU court tests. Ms. Manley represents a wide range of development-stage, specialty and established global life sciences companies, and concentrates her practices on both European and UK life sciences regulatory law. She has particular experience on issues arising during the life cycle of medicinal products, including advertising, product liability and competition.
