DLA Piper Real Estate partner, Howard Bassford, has been named in The Lawyer’s 2016 Hot 100.

The list compiles 100 people who have been recognised for their innovative and inspirational work when representing their company or firm, acting for clients, and contributing to the profession.

Howard Bassford has built a strong reputation as an innovator through his work as a public lawyer and a pioneer in the planning world. He specialises in major development projects and has advised on a number of high-profile development proposals. Most recently, his roles have included: lead Planning lawyer on the first ever development consent order; leading the legal team for the Mersey Gateway Bridge Project – the largest infrastructure project promoted by a public authority outside of London; and advising both Highways England and National Grid on their largest projects.

Howard’s most recent accolade relates to his work obtaining development consent for Tidal Lagoon Swansea Bay, the world’s first tidal lagoon power project, on behalf of Tidal Lagoon Power. This work is driving change in the UK energy market by developing infrastructure which harnesses natural power from the rise and fall of the tides. The first project, Tidal Lagoon Swansea Bay, establishes a scalable blueprint for a fleet of six tidal lagoons, capable of meeting up to 8% of UK electricity demand.

In addition to this work, Howard is involved in a number of pro bono projects which have included securing listed buildings consent for the preservation of the Cutty Sark, and work for the Prince’s Foundation for the Built Environment.
